“Memories and Magic”

1.Preserving Photos:

Save photos (digital or film) in the .jpg format.  Save on CD or DVD using Picasa or a “burning” program like EZ Media Creator or Nero.

2.Restoring Photos:

Scan old photos into your computer (NOT Picasa).  Touchup Scratches, Blemishes, Fading.  Enhance photos (usually Contrast & Brightness if B&W).

3.Using your Scanner:

Scan photos with software that came with Scanner OR, in Windows XP, go to START, ACCESSORIES, SCANNER & CAMERA WIZARD.

Scan important documents with O.C.R. (Optical Character Recognition) software directly into Microsoft Word or other Word Processor Program.  THIS REQUIRES A POWERFUL COMPUTER AND A LOT OF MEMORY RAM!

            Scanning for survival!

Scan jewelry right on flatbed (use ruler to show size/scale).

4.Use Your Computer as a FAX:

Scan a document into your computer with your Scanner and then use FAX software in Windows XP, go to START, ACCESSORIES, COMMUNICATIONS, FAX, SEND A FAX…..

The ability to do all these things depends upon the features in your software AND your familiarity with that software!  No one software has the capability to do all the things in all these situations!  I keep 6 to 8 different software titles on my computer and I treat them as “tools in a toolbox!”  You use the right software for the particular task!
